Galeria Karla Osorio presents the solo exhibition “Constellação Transitória – ephemeral nuances” by the artist Josiane Dias, which will open on Saturday, October 1st, between 11 am and 3 pm, with the presence of the artist and the curator.
The exhibition includes 2 recent series: “Em trance” and “Tel Aviv Bus Station”, with 24 photographs, medium and large, all unpublished in Brazil.

About the exhibition See below a brief curatorial text by the curator Rodrigo Vilela
“Josiane Dias presents two recent series at the exhibition: “Em trance” and “Tel Aviv Bus Station”. Both could be seen, at first, as diametrically opposed. However, the artist guides us through images connected by points and lines of color, which structure images of different natures.
“Em trance” brings a sequence of photographs of bathers, with their towels, chairs, books, sarongs, slippers and crocs that punctuate a very specific type of experience: that beach has always been there, impassive, with its rocks, wind and horizon, and what changes are the passing summer bathers, who alter the landscape, its colors, shapes and gestures, its unnatural presence.
Through digitally manipulated images, Josiane brings saturated colors, which are in the images, but do not represent those scenarios. However, her compositions create an environment both familiar and artificial, and put these characters in the foreground of the viewer’s focus, as if they were always there, naturally.
In the series “Tel Aviv Bus Station” Josiane presents a fragmented record of a Bauhausian building in the city-symbol of the German school in the post-war period. When the Bauhaus school closed in 1933, many of its talented members migrated to Tel-Aviv, which received a considerable contingent of teachers from the defunct school. The city has more than 4 thousand buildings built in the Bauhaus style, among them the monumental city bus station, whose construction began in 1967 and ended in 1993, with its more than 230 thousand m², more than a thousand stores and a gigantic labyrinthine structure.
If the purpose of the architecture was to create a functional environment, the artist’s eye focused precisely on the symbol-elements of this architecture that associates basic shapes (squares, triangles and circles) and primary colors, with its white and rationalist cubic architecture, just like the school precept. In this series, the dots of color not only illuminate the structure, but structure the look and create geometric, surrealist artificial landscapes, architectural in principle, in which it is no wonder that the human presence does not fit.
In this game of colors, planes, perspectives and lines, Josiane Dias presents a dialectic of presence and absence, melancholy and futurism. If the spaces filled by human participation are in nature and not in the city, what is the place of man in the contemporary world?
There is nothing more natural than presenting these works in Brasília, a symbol city of modernist architecture and human intervention in the natural landscape. In a writing by Dutch architect Rem Koolhass about the federal capital, the Pritzker Prize states: “Modernity is fundamentally ephemeral, it was never intended to last. At best, modern architecture is a minimal membrane separating a portion of a space for , temporarily, make it useful for some specific purpose. The aesthetic of the modern is a constellation of nuances that are meant to be transitory”.
