A museum for every ghetto: Solo exhibition by Aominê (Renan Aguena)

3 Nov, 2025

The exhibition “A museum for every ghetto” opens on November 4, 2025, at Galeria Karla Osorio in Brasília, presenting the first solo show of the carioca artist Aominê (Renan Aguena) in the capital. Comprising 15 works, many of which are unpublished from the last two years, the exhibition investigates the cultural and social complexity of the Rio de Janeiro suburb, highlighting everyday politics and the resistance strategies used by suburban people.

In this show, Aominê uses abstraction as a tool to portray fragments of the Rio de Janeiro suburb and to reveal the diversity and depth of this territory. Elements such as samba, funk, and rap appear as central influences along with African ancestry, represented by adinkras and lush vegetation, especially power plants. Visitors are invited to reflect on the valorization of territories, the historical legacy of each space, and the beauty found between nature and peripheral architecture.

About the artist Aominê (Renan Aguena)

Renan Aguena was born in 1990 and raised in Brás de Pina, North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Known artistically as Aominê, he is self-taught and stands out for his deep research of suburban daily life, establishing dialogues between painting, music, and poetry. His artistic production challenges conventional art structures in the city, questioning the concentration of cultural spaces and the valorization of peripheral territories.
