The “Hands that Weave Borders” exhibition presents the Greek artist Demi Kaia’s first solo show in Brazil. The opening takes place on December 12, 2025, at Galeria Karla Osório in Brasília. During 40 days of artistic residency, she created unpublished works using elements from the cerrado and local fauna.
Demi Kaia Exhibition Brasília
Demi Kaia reveals activist drawings addressing wars, gender violence, and speciesism. The show includes leather-bound diaries from the last 20 years and in situ sculptures. The curatorial text, in collaboration with Gianluigi Ricuperati, reflects on violence represented by violence and compassion as resistance.
Main Works and Themes
The installation combines old and new drawings with found objects. It questions borders imposed by domination systems between humans and non-humans. Themes like collective memory and obstinate hope resonate amid global crises.
- Unpublished drawings inspired by Brazil and crisis-stricken Greece.
- Sculptures with natural materials from the cerrado.
- Diaries recording genocides, ecocides, and authoritarianisms.
About the Artist
Demi Kaia was born in Greece, lives and works in Athens. She has presented her work in 11 solo exhibitions and numerous group shows, mainly in Greece, but also in Switzerland and France. Her numerous “Diary Projects” served as entry points for a large number of drawings, recording Greek reality during times of economic crisis, and her recent work is a narrative shaped by human and non-human lives and the ways both are positioned, used, and discarded.
She also has two performances in her repertoire, and her current sculptural work creates environments exploring the relationship between humans and non-humans/nature.
Her latest solo exhibition took place at the Katakouzenos Foundation in Athens (2023) titled “Biblioptaera”, curated by Efie Falida. Her works can be found in private collections, including that of D. Daskalopoulos (Neon Foundation), and many published in magazines, newspapers, and the book “That Time”, published by Futura Editions.
