Daniel Escobar

Daniel Escobar was born in Santo Ângelo/RS in 1982. He lives and works in Porto Alegre. He is a Master’s student in Visual Arts at the Institute of Arts of UFRGS. His work addresses the landscapes of desire created by consumption and entertainment, with research driven by issues related to capital and its multiple hypotheses (advertising industry, real estate capital, tourism market, symbolic capital, fake news, and the network).

He has participated in exhibitions such as RS XXI – curated by Paulo Herkenhoff, Santander Cultural (2018); Frestas Triennial – curated by Daniela Labra, SESC Sorocaba (2017); São Paulo is Not a City – curated by Paulo Herkenhoff, SESC 24 de Maio (2017); After the Future – EAV Parque Lage (2016); Graphic City, Itaú Cultural (2015); X São Paulo Architecture Biennial (2013); 18th Contemporary Art Biennial SESC Videobrasil (2013).

He has participated in residencies such as Bolsa Pampulha (Belo Horizonte, 2008-2009) and Bolsa Iberê Camargo/Casa de Velázquez (Madrid, 2014). His awards include the Acquisition Award from the Exhibition Program of the São Paulo Cultural Center (2013) and the Funarte Award for Contemporary Art in three editions. In 2018, he was a finalist for the PIPA Online Award and received the Extraordinary Incentive. His works are in public and private collections in Brazil and abroad, including the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo (MAM-SP), Museum of Art of Rio (MAR), Art Collection of the City of São Paulo, Museum of Art of Pampulha, Museum of Art of Rio Grande do Sul (MARGS), Museum of Contemporary Art of Paraná (MAC-PR), Casa de Velazquez (Madrid), among others.
