Karla Osorio Gallery is pleased to announce the participation of its represented artists, Bené Fonteles and Siwaju, at the 15th Havana Biennial, which opened on November 15, 2024, in Havana, Cuba. This event is recognized as one of the most important contemporary art events in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Havana Biennial serves as a convergence space for artists and audiences from various parts of the world, thus promoting cultural dialogues and highlighting artistic practices that explore global and urgent themes.
Bené Fonteles: Spirituality and Environmental Activism
Bené Fonteles, a renowned Brazilian artist, is widely known for his works that blend spirituality and environmental activism. His productions often address the relationship between man and nature, highlighting indigenous and ecological themes from a perspective of cultural resistance. At the Havana Biennial, Bené will present two significant works. Firstly, a wall installation that merges materials and symbolisms of Brazilian cultural identity. Additionally, a video and sound performance that invites the audience to a sensory experience connected to territory and the environment. Learn more.
Siwaju: Intersections between Time and Ecology
Siwaju, a young sculptor and researcher born in São Paulo and residing in Rio de Janeiro, explores the intersections between time and ecology in her works. In Havana, Siwaju will present an imposing iron sculpture composed of chains. Furthermore, the work will offer the audience the opportunity for interaction and discovery. Additionally, the piece reinforces the idea of interdependence and the flow of energies that characterizes her creations. Finally, the installation will be permanent and donated to ISA – University of the Arts.
Karla Osorio Gallery celebrates the inclusion of these two artists at the Havana Biennial, reaffirming its commitment to bringing the voices and visions of contemporary Brazilian art to the international scene.
