About the Exhibition

Selva de Carvalho’s artistic practice is rooted in embroidery and drawing. Her work explores the materiality, expressiveness, and transformation of fabrics, lines, papers, words, and bodies — both visible and invisible, human and non-human — as well as the organic, symbolic, and fantastical relationships among them. She also draws from performance arts. Inspired by the mythical figure of Leviathan, the exhibition creates an immersive atmosphere of light and shadow, symbols, unique forms, and new materials, such as wood, which appear in her work for the first time alongside textile pieces that reference ritualistic body gestures.

The Viewer’s Experience

Visitors are invited into an experimental journey in which wings and mouths blend within a scenographic interplay of darkness and light, echoing the artist’s unique cosmology and creative freedom present throughout her research. The exhibition suggests a poetic and singular perspective, fed by multiple mythologies and the dreamlike universe of the artist.
