Sculpture by Hugo França, Donated by Gallerist Karla Osório, Enriches Itamaraty Palace

Karla Osorio Gallery is pleased to announce the donation of the sculpture Yapira by renowned artist Hugo França to the Itamaraty Palace, the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil. The artwork was enthusiastically received by the government and now occupies a prominent position in the internal area of the building, on one of the reinforced concrete islands in the reflecting pool, perfectly integrated with the garden designed by Roberto Burle Marx.

The donation ceremony took place last Monday, February 24, during a luncheon in honor of artist Hugo França and gallerist Karla Osório, celebrated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira. The sculpture, carved from a Braúna root, measures three meters in diameter and harmonizes with the modernist architecture of the Palace, designed by Oscar Niemeyer.

Inaugurated in 1970, the Itamaraty Palace is one of Niemeyer’s most emblematic projects and houses works by several renowned artists, including Athos Bulcão, Candido Portinari, Pedro Américo, Tomie Ohtake, and Victor Brecheret. With the addition of the Yapira sculpture, the artistic collection of the Palace is further enriched.

Karla Osório Gallery is proud to support and promote contemporary Brazilian art, contributing to the valorization of the country’s cultural heritage.
